Textile architecture
Thanks to their unrivalled flexibility, low weight and strength, the textile constructions can be used to cover very large surface areas. The canvas structures give architects and designers unparalleled freedom of expression. With its specialised engineering and design office and the experience of its engineers, the BHD group can take on the most challenging contemporary architecture projects.
The advantages of the metal-textile infrastructures
The use of indoor and outdoor canvas solutions has many benefits:
– low load on the ground surface (lightness)
– more uncluttered load-bearing structural framework
– unique mechanical properties
– age-resistant material (guaranteed for up to 15 years)
– perfect sealing
– M2 and M1 fire safety standards
– Easy and quick construction
Optimum comfort thanks to the stretched canvas
The translucent property of the membrane is a key factor in the design, as it allows natural light to pass through the canvas.
The membrane’s low heat capacity prevents the redistribution of heat under the construction.
Tried and tested durability
The membranes used on permanent structures have excellent dimensional stability. Thanks to the PVDF surface treatment, they have a high resistance to UV rays. , atmospheric agents, dirt and ageing. They can be easily maintained.

ACS PRODUCTION, the subsidiary of the BHD group, specialising in textile architecture
ACS PRODUCTION, subsidiary of the BHD group, is recognised throughout the world for its constructions in every area of textile architecture (sports buildings, stadium stands, swimming pools, awnings, shelters, canopies, covered ways, stretch ceilings, facade coverings, etc.) All our constructions comply with best practices as defined in the reference document called ‘recommendations for designing permanent textile roof structures’ created in 1997 by the textile architecture sector. Since then, modifications were made in 1998 and then in 2007 to ensure the best possible standards and safety levels for our customers.
ACS PRODUCTION is involved in every stage of the process from design to completion:
– permanent roofs (urban infrastructures, sports infrastructures, logistical infrastructures, artistic infrastructures, etc.)
– shelters, canopies and awnings
– textile facades
– stretch ceilings
ETFE, a new concept in textile architecture
ETFE is a material that offers interesting new alternatives to conventional techniques used in textile architecture. The technical features of ETFE can be used to great effect in architectural projects, while also increasing the possibilities of constructions which require more natural light. Given the transparency and low weight (about 350 g/m2) of ETFE, it can make the difference and fits in easily when used in new architectural designs.
